The 10th Annual Lifetime Television  Golf Scramble at Tam O'Shanter in Hermitage is Wednesday, August 6th.  9a shotgun / $75 per player.  This is a scramble with 2men/2women teams and it's always a good time!  Proceeds benefit breast cancer patients through the American Cancer Society.  Still time to get your team registered.  Call Tam O'Shanter at 724-981-3552

 

The Matt Mishler Memorial 4-person Golf Scramble is Saturday, August 16th, at Ravenswood Golf Course in Ravenna.  Shotgun at 10a (registration begins at 8:30).  $70 per person includes dinner, prizes and silent auction hosted by Y-103's Lynn Davis (who always shows up in time for dinner!).  This is a fun event that pays tribute to Matt who died in a car crash on Father's Day.   He was 18 when he died. . The Sahara Club II is holding a one day Indoor  Flea Market on Sat. July26th, 2008  at 2345 Youngstown Rd. (rte.422) in Warren, Ohio.  This is in the same building as Nappa Auto Parts.  The cost per table is $10.00.  The hours are 9:00 AM - 4:00PM. If this works out well we will do it weekly.  The Sahara Club II is a non profit org.

 
 

Caddy For A Cure is coming to Akron at the Bridgestone Invitational July 29th, and 30th. Have the chance to caddy for a day for one of the world’s greatest players on the PGA TOUR at the exclusive and world famous Firestone Country Club. Stars Sergio Garcia, Paul Casey, KJ Choi, and Colin Montogomerie are all participating. 100% of all proceeds go to charity including The Wounded Warrior Project and the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund along with many Northern Ohio Charities. A new photographic exhibit The Boys and Girls of Summer is now open at the Arms Family Museum of Local History, 648 Wick Avenue in Youngstown .  The exhibit features images of local baseball teams from throughout the 20th Century.  From the Rayen High School team of 1901 (image attached) to the General Electric Softball team of 1976, the exhibit shows some of the teams and players that have brought our national pastime to life in the Mahoning Valley .

Join us for a Hawaiian Luau during Bessemer Community Days’ 2 day event. The Luau buffet dinner runs from 6-9pm on Friday, July 25. Tickets are needed before the day of the luau.  Grand Prize during the event is $2000 to be used by the winner towards vacation(s) to destination(s) of their choice. The Brad P. Holmes Memorial Golf Outing is set for Saturday, August 2nd,  at Pine Grove Golf Course in Grove City.    Hole Sponsorships are available for $100 and various levels of advertising ranging from $25-$75 are available for the tournament booklet.   Brad, a 21yr old volunteer firefighter with the Pine Township Engine Company Station 85, lost his life after  a rescue attempt during a Grove City fire on Feb 29th, 2008.   More information is also available by e-mailing Charles Gibbs:  gibby24@verizon.net or calling 724-977-4182

 

Boy Scout Troop 99 of Newbury, Oh is holding a Reunion Celebration and Cookout on August 2nd, at George Park in Newbury Township.   Anyone who has  ever been involved with  Troop 99 can contact Greg Dolence for more information at 440-564-746.  Newbury Township is in Geauga County approx. 15 miles South of Chardon.

 

Plan to attend a Benefit Spaghetti Dinner on Sunday, August 3rd, from 12n-4p at the Youngstown Maennechor (831 Mahoning ave in Youngstown).  Proceeds will go to motorcycle accident victim Susie Reader who was severely injured in an accident while riding the bike with her boyfriend who lost his life in that crash.  The accident happened at Myrtle Beach bike week and the driver of the car involved was reportedly DUI.  Susan's injured have required 7 surgeries to date and she is a single mom.  Donation is $8 adults, $5 kids (10 & under).  A benefit golf outing is also scheduled fore August 16th at Tam O'Shanter in Hermitage.  For more info call 330-207-5616 or 724-981-3552

 

  A Benefit Poker Run for Special Olympics programs and athletes of Lawrence County takes place on Saturday, August 9th.   There will be food and 85 mile ride, music, raffles and a Chinese auctions. Music is supplied by Sweaty Betty Blues band and they play for usually two hours after the ride.  For more info call Rev. Silver Jubilee Organ Concert on August 15 at 7 p.m. is a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the installation and dedication of the Austin Pipe Organ purchased in 1983 by The Calvary Baptist Church, corner of Shields and Tippecanoe in Boardman. Thomas Pavlechko, a Dana School of Music graduate, is the guest organist. The concert will feature compositions by Bach, Mozart, Strauss, and Widor who have composed works specifically for the pipe organ. In addition, organ selections arranged specifically for this concert will be performed by Mr. Pavlechko accompanied by the 45-member Canfield Community Concert Band. The concert is open to the public. Nursery care is available by reservation with the church office at 330-792-7873.

 

 

On Angels' Wings is a non-profit therapeutic horseback riding organization that operates exclusively on donations.   Join us on August 16, 2008 for Scenic Trail Rides through Beaver Creek State Park. Registration is 8:00am through 2:00pm at The Horseman’s Camp at 12816 Sprucevale Road.  First ride leaves out at 10:00am and additional rides to leave out at noon and 2:00pm. The Alliance Community Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce availability of online registration for our “Steppin’ Out for Hospice” Twilight 5K Fun Run/Walk and One-Mile Children’s Fun Run, which will be held on Saturday, August 23rd.   The one-mile event (for children 14 and under) kicks off at 7 p.m., with the 5K beginning at 7:45 p.m. Application forms are available at the hospital, at local Second Sole locations and now, for the ease and convenience of participants, online registration is also available at www.achosp.org.

 

The American Cancer Society's Best Program offers NO COST MAMMOGRAMS to income eligible women ages 40-64. The Alzheimer’s Association is gearing up for another successful Memory Walk season.   Each fall, over 1,500 people join us in the fight to end Alzheimer’s disease by participating in Memory Walk.   The Alzheimer's Association is asking members of the community to get involved in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease by signing up to have a team, donating a raffle prize or by becoming a corporate sponsor. Dates/Times of Walks: Canfield/Boardman area - Saturday, September 6 at McMahon Hall/Mill Creek Metroparks / Warren – Saturday, September 27 at Perkins Park in Warren. Poland United Methodist Church (1940 Boardman Poland Rd/rt 224) is featuring their "Homemade Dinners to Go" on the first Thursday of each month from 4-6 (until sold out).  Baked stuffed chic ken breast with mashed potatoes and green beans for just $6.  No need to pre-order.  Just drive to the front of the church and they'll hand you your dinners.  Future Dates August 7th, Sept. 4th & Oct 2nd.

 

CC's Pizza in Boardman is hosting a fundraiser for the Struthers Little Wildcats football players and cheerleaders.   Families can enjoy a great dinner and help out our organization at the same time. All they need to do is remember to deposit their receipt into the designated box at the register so they can be included in our totals for the night. Our  fundraiser nights will be the first Saturday of the month, from 4-8p, until November. Those dates are August 2, September 6, October 4, and November 1. This is a great chance to help out our little guys while doing something that is totally fun. Also, there are no additional charges for this, just the regular meal price.

 

 

Howland Community Church and the Heritage Quilter's will be holding their
30th Annual Quilt Show on Friday, October 10 and Saturday, October 11 from
10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.   Every year the women of Howland Community Church bring together vendors and  quilters from all over Ohio and Pennsylvania to display some of the finest  quilts available.  The people that attend the show not only view some of the  most beautiful quilts but they also get to participate in judging of the
quilts.  There will be a Vendor's Mall, Technique and Product Demonstrations and Food served in the Country Kitchen.  There will be raffles including the "Lime
Star Log Cabin" Quilt made by the Heritage Quilters and custom quilted by
